25 Random Facts About Me
Resumes and videos can give you a limited glimpse into my life, but I thought I would provide 25 interesting facts about me so you can see why my wife says there is never a dull moment when I am around, how I am not perfect, and how much I love life!
1). My musical influences vary. Right now CD's in my car are Coldplay, U2, Michael Jackson, David Crowder, Hillsong United, Elvis, Best of 80's Love Songs, and in the player itself is Silly Willy Wiggly Songs for Kids.
2) My brother David unexpectedly committed suicide January 3, 1999. This was an extremely tragic time in my life and changed the course of my life for many years. I am very open about this and can talk with anyone and anywhere on this topic.
3) I wanted to be a train engineer when I was growing up, and even got to drive a train engine numerous times because of my father's work connections.
4) Even though I have been to 42 states in the U.S., including Alaska, I forced my in-laws to cross the Canadian border in Montana for 30 minutes so I could take a picture and say I have been out of the country.
5) I hit a bass (yes, a large fish), with my car as I was driving down the road when I was in high school. Can you figure out how?
6) I don't watch a lot of TV unless it was recorded on the DVR. When I do watch it, it is usually late at night and I like Food Network, History Channel, Discovery Channel, A & E, Parks & Recreation, and Seinfeld re-runs.
7) My parents used to own a summer house on Martha's Vineyard that they sold in 1994. All the presidents since Bill Clinton have stayed there as a guest during there presidency's. It's not that exciting because I have never met them, just kind of cool to think about.
8) I play 4 instruments well. If you are wondering, my voice is an instrument.
9) I had a recording contract for 10 months with a christian record label. The record company got bought out and I got released. In a wierd way, I really feel it was a blessing to be released. The record remains unfinished and they gave me all the music on a hard drive.
10) While in the recording contract, I met some really cool and famous people, the coolest of which was probably Terry Nails from the band "Tommy Tutone". Anyone remember "867-5309". He laid down some bass tracks on a few of my songs. Oh yea, he played with Ozzy Osborne for a while, and the bass he used in the studio was the one used by Steve Lukather from "Toto" fame to record "Beat It" on Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. Like anyone cares but me!
11) I helped negotiate two different reality tv exploratory pilot contracts for a client and dealt with all aspects of public relations and show development for a reality show. Fish Bowl Worldwide Media out of Hollywood was the production company who approached us about devleoping a show featuring a family run business and the daily struggles in managing the 5 different companies and remaining solvent in a bad economy. Discovery Communications actually ended up purchased the rights for a full season. The owners of Magnolia Dunes opted out after getting cold feet and felt that it would hurt and not help them in the long run.
12) I originally went to apply for a substitute teaching position and ended up teaching algebra for over 6 years in public schools without an education degree.
13) I love fresh pizza's from local pizzeria's. Not the chain stuff! If I had to eat the chain stuff, I think Domino's would be the choice. If I had to!
14) I collect Snoopy items. I love Snoopy!
15) I love Classic Rock, Comedy Movies, & 80's & 90's movies!
16) I have had to manage the communications for numerous work related accidents and deaths, but the hardest was a 3 year old boy who died as the result of an accident at one of Magnolia Dunes businesses, an outdoor adventure park for off-road enthusiasts. I learned there are a lot of hateful, cold people in this world, including news reporters.
17) I always knew I was going to be the daddy of a little baby girl. So far I have 2!
18) I cannot watch anything on TV with blood or gore, but I can stare at it all day if I am in front of it. Go figure!
19) I am not a big fan of long phone conversations with someone in the same town. I would rather spend hours talking in person.
20) I received a full music scholarship to the University of South Carolina and attended there for 2 years before transferring to FSU.
21) I made the Dean's List a few semesters in college. However, I did fail one class. Quantitative Methods of Statistics 3!
22) I received a Marketing degree because it was the fastest degree out of college. 4 years exact, no summer school.
23) I had to wear a back brace for 3 years in middle school because my spine was curving forward too much. I am a little under 6'1" but should be about 2 inches taller.
24) I didn't go to the dentist for about 6 years before I got married. My wife forces me to go now.
25) I bought my first house when I was 24. I spent 2 years completely remodeling it down to the bare studs. I ended up selling it for a good profit. I did all the work with my dad, and as far as I know, it hasn't burnt down yet.
